ALERT!!! – TeamViewer may have been compromised.

I have been a long time user of Teamviewer. I have used it a good number of occasions to help family members with their computer woes. But, folks I have sad news for you today. It looks like hackers are exploiting Teamviewer accounts to access email, Amazon, and PayPal accounts.

Reddit is all a buzz right now of users claiming that their accounts have been compromised. Posts have detailed various types hacker activity. One such incident the hacker gained access to a system, logged in to PayPal and ordered thousands of dollars of gift cards.

Officially, TeamViewer denies the breach, instead blaming the activity on user’s passwords and a denial of service attack. However, many users rebut these claims because they are using unique, long, generated passwords and 2FA. Others speculate that it is related to DNS records pointing to a fake server in China.

My advice is to turn off TeamViewer for now and change your passwords. Take a look at my article on passwords here for suggestions when creating new passwords.
